On December 8, 2020, the Vatican announced that 2021 will be a year dedicated to St. Joseph, husband of Mary and earthly father of Jesus Christ. This announcement coincided with the 150th anniversary of the proclamation of St. Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church by Pope Pius IX in December 8, 1870 with the papal document Quemadmodum Deus.
A call to closeness with St. Joseph is especially relevant in times such as these - filled with questions and uncertainties. His patronage reminds us to focus on what is certain/eternal, what is good, and what is sustaining. The Church helps us recognize this powerful intercessor in Heaven who, having lived and worked dutifully in the upbringing of our Lord, is like many of us - hardworking family members who continue on bravely amidst the pangs of life, trusting that all is part of God's greater plan and glory.
